N-POWER PORTAL FOR NEW APPLICATIONS

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS NOT REOPENED N-POWER PORTAL FOR NEW APPLICATIONS YET

Our attention has been drawn to false and fraudulent reports circulating especially in the Social Media that new N-Power applications are now being received on the N-Power portal. There are also equally false reports and claims about an unauthorised request for vital personal information of beneficiaries such as BVN, Account Number, among others not known to the Presidency or any arm of the Federal Government.
Beneficiaries and potential beneficiaries of the N-Power Volunteer Corps should ignore such reports emanating from fake sources and outlets and only relate with bonafide presidency and FG sources and web portals (http://npvn.npower.gov.ng, http://npower.gov.ng). For the avoidance of doubt, legitimate communication about the N-Power is done through selection@npower.gov.ng or the relevant Focal Persons appointed by each of the 36 States and the FCT.
Any information that does not emanate from this identified sources or directly from the Presidency should be simply and outrightly dismissed.
Date for commencement of the next batch of volunteers for the N-Power program will be announced on http://npvn.npower.gov.ng and http://npower.gov.ng

JAMB REGISTRATION

JAMB will start sales of 2017/2018 UTME registraton March 20th March, 2017

The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) says it will begin the registration for the 2017/2018  (UTME) from March 20.

Dr Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Head of Public Relations made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) today in Bwari.

Benjamin said the date was fixed following an agreement that was reached on the harmonization of the examination timetable at a meeting with other exam bodies on Jan. 24, 2017.

“We will begin registration on March 20, while UTME is scheduled to hold in May.

“We are ready to commence the registration of the 2017/2018 UTME and Direct Entry forms on the said date,’’ he said.

It added that candidates can choose to either take the mock examination or not.

The board also disclosed that Interswitch Payment on the e-Facility portal has been temporarily disabled and that the list of its accredited centres will soon be announced.

Three Nigerian banks (Access bank, Guarantee Trust bank and Zenith bank) took over Etisalat

Nigeria. The communication company allegedly fails to repay a loan of over N541bn it secured from the consortium in 2015.

      A source at NCC disclosed that the commission tried its best to ensure the situation didn’t degenerate to taking over of the telecoms company but that pressures from the banks became so intense it had to allow the action.

        The report says the loan involved a foreign-backed guaranty bond and was given to Etisalat to finance a major network rehabilitation and expansion of its operation in Nigeria.

After failing to service its debt since 2016, the banks reported the company to the Central Bank of Nigeria and communications sector regular NCC.

Etisalat blamed its inability to fulfil its obligation to the banks on the current economic recession in Nigeria but the banks replied that Asset Management Company of Nigeria regulations demanding immediate cut down on the rate of their non-performing loans give them no other option.

Vice President for Regulatory Affairs at Etisalat Nigeria, said Etisalat missed payments due to an economic downturn in Nigeria, currency devaluation and dollar shortages on the country’s interbank market.

The Nigerian banks include Guaranty Trust Bank, Access Bank and Zenith Bank. The new development is coming after the telecom regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, tried a couple of times to mediate issues between the telecoms company and the banks without results.

FG PAYS AKWA IBOM NPOWERITES

The prayer of the Akwa Ibom NPowerites has finally been answer as FG pays their first stipend yesterday. This to me is a stepping stone in fulfiling the promise made by the APC administration during their electioneering campaign. Although the alert did not specified the month of payment, but Akwa Ibom NPowerites as really shown their happiness by posting some chats in a whatsapp group and some social media platform.

Payment started tomorrow and is hope to continue till they are done. Below is a sample of alert received by a volunteer this morning in Akwa Ibom State. However some members expresses their feelings for not receiving alert from some banks which could be as a reason of late verification.

Akwa Ibom Youths Sports Festival Holds February 14 -24

The Akwa Ibom Youths Sports Festival with participants from the respective local government councils will commence from February 14 this year.
This formed part of the decisions taken by the State Executive Council presided over by Gov. Udom Emmanuel at Government House, Uyo, Wednesday.
The decisions of the State Executive Council made known by the commissioner for information and strategy, Mr Charles Udo, alongside his counterpart in the Ministry of Sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko , indicated that the preliminaries of  the competition would span to cover the 24th of this month.
Uko specifically explained that the State Executive Council took the decision to rescue Nigeria from non-representation of competitors in future international sporting events, stressing that the intention was to discover talents in the state.
He announced that champions raised from the respective local government competitions would engage in the final competition billed to take place from March 15 to 19, calling on individuals in the various councils to lend the necessary support to their councils.
The commissioner for sports maintained that the expected Youths Sports Festival would be one of the biggest events with prizes selected to be won by individual competitors, champions and even the local government councils, adding that the State Executive Council would accord the event the seriousness it deserves.
Uko noted that with the success expected from the hosting of the event this month, the State Executive Council has also given the approval for another round of the sports fiesta in November this year, saying in the deliberations of the State Executive Council the event would take place two times this year.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari and his medical doctors were the only competent people to disclose why he had to be treated in a foreign hospital.

The minister said this in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the inauguration of Central Pharmacy Store and Maternity Building at the Obafemi Awolowo University  Teaching Hospital Complex , Ile Ife.

He said the President might have travelled as a matter of choice or on the advice of his doctors.

He said, ” I won’t describe it as a large volume but we still have people travelling abroad. One, it is a matter of choice and secondly, there is what is called bonding between a doctor and his patient irrespective of where the doctor is and that creates a problem, the patient may not want to see a new doctor.

” If a patient is seeing a particular doctor and that doctor is not around he may likely wait. You don’t want to be examined by a new doctor, you don’t want to start all over again. It is one of the reasons and you can’t take it away.”

Asked if that was the reason the President travelled abroad for treatment, the minister said Buhari and his doctors were the ones, who could answer the question.

Adewole said, ” The President is the best person to speak on this, he is our leader but also a private citizen. He is entitled to making a choice which will be influenced largely by the advice of his doctor.”

The minister commended the management and staff of the OAUTHC for doing what he described as wonderful job but he said their feats were largely under reported.

A former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mrs. Farida Waziri, on Sunday expressed concern over the perceived politicisation of the the medical trip of President Muhammadu Buhari with a call on Nigerians to cultivate the habit of encouraging their leaders, rather than demonizing them.

According to her, the present economic hardship in the country should not lead to some citizens wishing their leaders dead.

“Speaking positively about our leaders and country will no doubt have a positive impact on our collective image around the world. Agreed, there is much suffering in the land but this should not change us from being the good people that we have always been , by wishing our leaders dead. Let us have a rethink. We can’t afford to cut our noses to spite our faces. We must not lose our humanity even in the face of hardship and recession, because it is our collective effort to build this nation”, the ex-EFCC chairman emphasised.

Waziri in a statement obtained by THE PUNCH in Abuja, said while great nations adore their leaders and do not talk ill of them especially the good ones, Nigerians do not wish their leaders well.

She said, “The world over, great nations; whether the US, UK, China, Germany or France and more, they don’t talk ill of their leaders, instead, they encourage them and build them as exemplary national figures. As wife of Nigeria’s Ambassador to Turkey in 2004-2008, I arrived at Atatürk Airport Istanbul, my escort informed me proudly that the airport is named after the father of modern Turkey.

“Downtown Istanbul main street was also adorned with portraits of the man, Atatürk. This, to me, is one clear way to encourage and build our national figures and leaders. Let the good ones serve as good examples of good leadership and the bad ones as such.

News: Confusion Over N-Power as Scheme Takes Off Today (1st December)Posted on Thu 01st Dec, 2016 N-Power - There is confusion among many of the 200,000 candidates selected for the Federal Government’s N-Power programme concerning their place of assignment as the scheme officially takes off today, Daily Trust’s findings show. The Presidency had about two weeks ago said that 200,000 graduates employed under the N-Power would resume work on December 1. “Between now and the end of the month, the states and the FCT would be engaged in deploying the graduates who would formally start working and earning their stipends on December 1, 2016,” the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, had said in a statement. On the complaints by many of the selected applicants that they were yet to receive letters of deployment, Akande told Daily Trust yesterday that states were responsible for the placement of participants. The vice president’s spokesman said that those selected would get their first salary in December. “Everything is set. The money is already available,” he said. “The states will deploy them to their places of primary assignments. It is not a permanent job. Rather, it is a two-year intervention programme for unemployed graduates. “All the states have keyed into the programme. The states are responsible for the deployment of the selected applicants. The states are already contacting them. The deployment started about a week ago. Some states are already doing this and others will follow suit. After the states have deployed them to their places of primary assignments, they (the selected applicants) will get letters on information about where they will work.”

Fatal accident

This accident claim the life of three Nigerian. According to observers, the event which left three seriously injured also killed three others at the spot. The accident took place at Ekom Iman Junction at about 11pm yesterday. The driver which is death was seriously drunk and some bottles of alcoholic drinks were found inside the car.
